Tuscarora High School’s spring musical, “Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy,” is showing May 11, 12, and 13th at 7pm. Tickets can be bought directly at https://tuscarora-hs.ticketleap.com/sister-act/ to reserve choice seating, or for $10 at the door. This show’s unique emphasis on community and friendship reflects the cast and their efforts to provide an inclusive community of theatre. Not only are students in this hilarious production, but teachers and staff members can also be found grooving and jiving. For the first time since Tuscarora High School’s opening, faculty will be performing alongside students, and this has resulted in a larger, passionate cast and camaraderie within Tuscarora. Community outreach was also a major part of this show, especially April 23rd as members of the cast and crew attended Leesburg’s annual Flower and Garden Festival to promote the show, and May 5th when the nuns left Tuscarora High School to promote the show during Leesburg’s First Friday. The feeling of sisterhood was eminent as cast and crew greeted people with smiles and warmth during both events!
This contemporary story, based off of the 1990s movie, takes place during the mid-1970’s while disco was still in its hey day! Delores Van Cartier, an aspiring entertainer is struck with disco fever and is out for notoriety and wealth, but her path to fame and fortune is seemingly cut short when she is at the wrong place at the wrong time and witnesses a murder at the hands of her lover, Curtis Shank. Faced with a life or death situation, Dolores is forced to face her faults and reevaluate her priorities when she is placed into a convent for her safety. Throughout the show she embarks on a journey with her fellow nuns, which teaches the significance of loyalty, the importance of friendship, and power of sisterhood. The sentiment of sisterhood is not only felt during the production, but within the close-knit cast as well. Come out May 11th, 12th, and 13th at 7pm to Tuscarora to witness a hilarious, yet heartfelt story of acceptance.
